The purpose of the first meeting of the Communications Committee was to discuss ways in which the committee can best function to provide a line of communications between our Board and members of LPHOA and between members. Nancy Schaefer (252-0290) volunteered to serve as chairperson and Terri Drake (249-1612) will act as recording secretary. Vickie Corraro has agreed to act as editor for upcoming newsletters. We are proposing to the Board that a newsletter be published bimonthly beginning in January of 2005. Previously the newsletter was published quarterly. The newsletter will report on actions of the committees: 1) maintenance, 2) architectural, 3) welcoming, social and activities, and others that may be formed. Sylvia Dewey will report from the Board on actions taken and will include a report from the President of the Board of Directors, Tim Custer. Contact was made with Kerry Waters who has distributed the newsletters in the past and he will be happy to work with us. The cost is a set up fee of $30 for up to 1,000 newsletters, plus 13.6 cents each for bulk mail. He has the labels and will attach them for us as a part of the costs. Other subcommittees include:
The proposed new name of the newsletter will be: LP Friends Unite Neighborhood Times--LP FUN TIMES. (A take off on Chicago Sun-Times.) In every newsletter will appear a list of contacts for the City of Broken Arrow, i.e. police, complaints, etc. The newsletter will be printed on colored paper with January (blue), March (pink), May (green), July (red), September (yellow) and November (orange). Additional letters can be sent at the request of the Board, or committee chairpersons, with approval from the Board. Marvin and Darlene McCormick have volunteered to stuff envelopes and attach labels for letters. Also, section representatives could attach flyers to doors once that system is in place. Terri Drake and Julie Luna will work with JT Thomas and Richard Schaefer to establish sections within Lancaster Park in order to find a representative for each area. A committee to keep the web site up to date is being headed by Chaun Goins with Cliff Mobley, Clark Kalens, and Richard Hurtado supporting Chaun. Their first meeting will be Thursday evening, November 18. The aim of the communications committee is to put the newsletters on the web site along with other informative pages. A rough draft of the first letter from the Board was revised and edited by all attending the meeting. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and capable volunteers for this committee. Regular meetings for the communication committee will be scheduled on the first Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be December 2, 7:00 p.m. at the home of Nancy Schaefer, 4308 West Detroit. - Submitted by Nancy Schaefer |
